Law Enforcement Sergeant (Federal Reserve)

About the role

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is looking for a self‑motivated Law Enforcement Sergeant to lead its security team during shift operations. The role provides tactical direction, mentorship and operational oversight for officers protecting the bank’s personnel, assets and facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate law‑enforcement staff performing post assignments, patrol, access control, screening, surveillance and special assignments.
• Serve as liaison between management and operational staff, ensuring clear two‑way communication.
• Respond to disturbances, emergencies and life‑threatening situations, applying appropriate force and preparing detailed incident reports.
• Operate and monitor bank security systems including CCTV, integrated access‑control, alarm, X‑ray, metal detectors, biometric readers, radio, fire and public‑address systems.
• Provide rotational duties such as canine handler, instructor or field‑training officer and mentor less‑experienced personnel.
• Assume shift leadership in the absence of a supervisor and ensure compliance with policies and equipment readiness.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of relevant law‑enforcement or security experience.
• High school diploma or GED; must be at least 21 years old.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Strong understanding of business processes and security best practices.

Required skills

• Operation of closed‑circuit television (CCTV) systems.
• Integrated access‑control and alarm system management.
• Use of X‑ray machines, metal detectors and biometric readers.
• Radio communications and public‑address system operation.
• Fire safety system monitoring.
