Robot Learning Engineering Intern

About the role

The Robot Learning Lab at Bosch Research Pittsburgh is seeking a motivated intern to support robotics research at the intersection of hardware, telemetry, and machine learning. You will work closely with scientists and engineers to collect high‑quality data, manage robot stations, and contribute to the development of robot foundation models.

Key responsibilities

• Operate teleoperation systems and XR interfaces to guide robots through manipulation tasks while ensuring smooth, high‑quality motion capture.
• Coordinate data‑collection campaigns with the ML team, manage robot availability, and adapt to shifting priorities.
• Identify mechanical inconsistencies, behavioral anomalies, and workflow issues, applying systematic troubleshooting.
• Develop and test robot learning methods using collected datasets to train policies across multiple robot platforms.
• Assist in preparing academic and technical reports, including publications and invention disclosures.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Robotics, Machine Learning, Computer Engineering, or a related field with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
• At least 3 years of experience with interactive systems such as games, simulations, or robotics.
• Background in robot learning or robotics R&D and familiarity with data‑collection pipelines.

Required skills

• Linux command‑line proficiency.
• Experience with multiple robot hardware platforms and teleoperation systems.
• Data‑collection and motion‑capture pipeline development.
• Knowledge of XR interfaces and sensor telemetry.
• Machine‑learning engineering for dataset creation and model training.
