Risk Management & Captive Insurance Manager

About the role

The Risk Management & Captive Insurance Manager will own the company’s property & casualty insurance and captive risk programs across all operating entities. This hands‑on individual contributor role works closely with finance, legal, safety, and executive leadership to ensure claims and insurance decisions drive total economic value.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary internal owner for P&C claims, including workers’ compensation, auto liability, general liability and property.
• Define guidelines for claim submission versus direct handling, considering deductibles, captive funding and overall cost impact.
• Maintain active oversight of material claims, conduct regular reviews with TPAs, adjusters and brokers, and challenge reserves, settlement and litigation strategies.
• Escalate significant or sensitive claims to senior leadership and pursue sub‑rogation, recovery and loss‑mitigation opportunities.
• Coordinate the captive insurance program, understand funding mechanics, loss allocations and retained‑loss structures.
• Monitor captive performance, reconcile claim data across internal records, TPAs, carriers and captive administrators.

• Commercial and operational mindset with a focus on total economic impact.
• Strong analytical abilities to evaluate claim economics and captive performance.
• Proven experience managing P&C claims and captive insurance programs.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with operating‑company leadership, finance, legal and external partners.
