RF Electrical Engineer

About the role

The Leidos Defense Space Business Area is seeking an experienced RF Electrical Engineer to support the Emerging Space Systems Division in developing advanced RF technologies for next-generation space missions. The role supports the design, modeling and experimental validation of electromagnetic technologies across the radio frequency spectrum, and works closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Support RF antenna modeling and performance analysis, and design trades and system-level evaluations based on laboratory measurements
• Help develop compact, high-performance payloads
• Take part in laboratory work such as prototype antenna characterization, electronics integration, testing and component/system characterization
• Evaluate and mature emerging RF technologies such as RF metamaterials and electrically small antennas
• Analyze experimental data to inform design decisions and document results for internal R&D and program efforts

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 6+ years; a Doctorate is acceptable
• US citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
• Comfortable working across simulation and laboratory environments

Required skills

• Experience with RF antenna modeling, simulation or analysis
• Familiarity with RF aperture metrics such as antenna gain, EIRP, radiation efficiency and noise characteristics
• Laboratory experience, including anechoic chamber testing or characterization
• Preferred: active Secret clearance with ability to obtain a higher-level clearance (TS/SCI)
• Preferred: hands-on experience building RF testbeds, antenna design tools such as COMSOL or CST Microwave Studio, and exposure to RF metamaterial antennas, space-time modulation or electrically small antennas
