Revenue Cycle Specialist – Legal Billing

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Central Business Office is seeking a full‑time Revenue Cycle Specialist 1 to work remotely in the Compromised Settlements Unit. The role provides foundational support for legal billing activities, handling subpoenas, statutory attorney requests, and patient account management while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and relevant billing statutes.

Key responsibilities

• Assist law firms, third‑party records retrieval companies, patient advocates, and internal departments with Personal Injury, Workers’ Compensation, bankruptcy, probate, and billing dispute cases.
• Process subpoenas and statutory attorney requests under supervision, generating accurate itemized bills and compiling required documentation.
• Support patient advocate requests by providing timely account information in line with regulatory requirements.
• Apply billing indicators, holds, and adjustments according to policy and regulatory guidelines.
• Bill appropriate payers (PIP, WC, commercial insurance, Medicaid, Medicare) in coordination with Billing and Collections.
• Communicate with law firms, patient advocates, and internal teams via phone and email to resolve routine account and claim issues.
• Manage Epic Workqueues for assigned accounts, assisting with workflow procedures and documentation.
• Identify simple account discrepancies and take independent action or escalate as needed.

Required profile

• Experience supporting legal billing or revenue cycle functions in a healthcare environment.
• Familiarity with HIPAA, FDCPA, FCCPA, Florida hospital billing statutes, and prompt‑pay laws.
• Ability to work under guidance of a Legal Assistant II and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow policy‑driven processes.
