Revenue Agent 1 – South Metro Atlanta Regional Office

About the role

The Georgia Department of Revenue is seeking a Revenue Agent 1 to support tax compliance in the South Metro Atlanta region. This entry‑level position involves determining tax liability and collecting taxes from individuals and businesses in accordance with state law.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate taxpayers using computer inquiries, record reviews, telephone interviews and personal contact.
• Assist delinquent taxpayers in becoming voluntarily compliant through payment agreements, offers in compromise and collection actions.
• Prepare tax assessments, identify liabilities and ensure accurate collection.
• Communicate with customers, tax professionals, local officials and colleagues via phone, electronic media or in person.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED plus one year of related experience (collections, bookkeeping, accounting, finance) or equivalent Revenue Agent Trainee experience.
• Demonstrated teamwork, judgment, accountability and strong customer‑service orientation.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license and ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience using collaboration tools such as MS Teams, Skype or Zoom.
