Retail Store Leadership Intern - Summer 2027

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Store Leadership Intern for Summer 2027. The intern trains with an assigned mentor at a designated store and gains hands-on experience across several departments, including perishables, store operations and human resources. The role covers the day-to-day functions of a retail store, such as merchandising, cash accountability procedures, food safety guidelines and scheduling, while helping coordinate weekly promotions to meet sales goals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and maintain a positive, team-oriented atmosphere in the store
• Assist management in setting pricing and blends for maximum departmental profitability
• Help set up ad and promotional displays and check that product quality and quantities meet demand
• Ensure store standards for customer service, employee relations and departmental profitability are met
• Use the store's hardware and software technology
• Assist in forecasting and reviewing the store labor schedule within the Store Director's guidelines
• Replenish shelf product, design and construct displays, and recommend changes to merchandise allocations
• Work with cash registers and handle confidential information such as pricing, sales reports, profit and loss reports and wages with discretion
• Follow Hy-Vee policies, report to work when scheduled and work the expected number of hours

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent experience required
• A degree in an applicable field required
• Comfortable standing and walking throughout a shift, using sharp knives and blades where applicable, and operating a delivery vehicle in line with DOT standards where applicable
• Exposure to dust, noise, temperature extremes and cleaning chemicals, with training provided on safety
