Retail Management Intern - Store Leadership (Summer 2027)

About the role

Meijer offers an 11-week Store Leadership Internship in Mt Pleasant, Ohio, for students currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program who want a career in store leadership. During the first half of the internship, interns learn retail knowledge and leadership competencies; in the second half they act as an Intern Team Leader, applying their learning in an official leadership role. The internship includes projects presented to senior executives, an executive speaker series, training, networking events and an intern roadshow.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, direct and supervise team members in the day-to-day operations of the store, serving as mentor and coach
• Support the department in achieving sales, maintaining shrink and managing the P&L
• Provide courteous, friendly and efficient service to customers and team members
• Mentor and coach team members so that customer service and sales goals are exceeded and the area meets Meijer standards
• Onboard new team members and help them complete required training
• Spend most of the time in the store communicating with customers and team members
• Promote a safe work environment and perform other duties as assigned

Required profile

• Student currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including some nights and/or weekends
• Past leadership responsibilities in work or extracurricular activities strongly preferred
• Prior retail experience preferred but not required
• Reliable and consistent attendance

Required skills

• Ability to analyze financial information and other data to make informed decisions
• Effective communication and relationship-building with customers, team members and leadership
• Action-oriented, able to manage multiple tasks
