Residency Registered Nurse – Surgical Oncology Specialty

About the role

The University of Miami Health System is seeking a Residency Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Surgical Oncology team at UHealth Tower. This full‑time position provides patient‑family centered care in a culturally competent environment, supporting the delivery of high‑quality oncology services.

Key responsibilities

• Assess assigned patients, document nursing care, and report changes in condition and vital signs.
• Review diagnostic test results and collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team members to develop and adjust care plans.
• Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments, taking age and cultural considerations into account.
• Administer medications and perform patient tests safely, maintaining accurate records in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Communicate care plans to patients, families, and the care team while ensuring HIPAA compliance.
• Assist with discharge planning and utilize resources to support patient transitions.
• Serve as a preceptor for new staff, providing guidance and constructive feedback.
• Adhere to university and unit policies, safeguard assets, and operate medical equipment safely.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred (ASN graduates must complete BSN within 2 years).
• Valid Florida Registered Nurse license.
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
• Minimum two years of nursing experience, preferably in oncology or surgical settings.
