Research Program Manager

About the role

The Defense Industrial Base Institute at Northeastern University is seeking an experienced Research Program Manager to lead DoD‑funded research initiatives in the Boston area. Reporting to the Associate Director of Research, you will oversee multiple project portfolios, coordinate with prime contractors, and guide graduate and undergraduate research staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide program and portfolio management for multiple complex research portfolios, creating systems to track milestones, deliverables, and timelines.
• Analyze project performance, manage schedules and risks, and report status to the Director of Research.
• Assist with proposals, budgets, and contract submissions for new research efforts.
• Plan and conduct research meetings, workshops, and seminars, handling logistics and stakeholder coordination.
• Support manuscript, publication, and briefing preparation in collaboration with faculty and research teams.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship (required for Federal funding).
• PMP certification or equivalent 5+ years of project management experience.
• Bachelor’s degree (graduate degree preferred) with solid knowledge of DoD program and contract management.
• Strong background in supply chain, procurement, or manufacturing technical areas.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem‑solving abilities.
