Research Associate (Level 3‑5) – Energy Data & Analytics

About the role

The Center for Energy Studies seeks a Research Associate (Level 3, 4, or 5) to support data‑driven research on energy markets, infrastructure, and policy. The role combines energy economics, statistical modeling, database management, and web application development to produce actionable insights for the Gulf Coast Energy Outlook and related studies.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain energy databases integrating data from Louisiana SONRIS, EIA, EPA and other sources.
• Build and optimize ETL pipelines, ensure data quality, validation, and documentation.
• Conduct econometric and statistical analyses of energy markets, production trends, and employment patterns.
• Develop predictive models, perform hypothesis testing, sensitivity and scenario analyses.
• Support the creation of interactive web‑based dashboards and visualizations.
• Assist with Act 727 implementation for state energy data dissemination.

Required profile

• Experience with energy economics or related quantitative research.
• Strong analytical mindset and ability to work under supervision.
• Familiarity with federal and state energy data sources.
