Maritime Data Exploitation Analyst II

About the role

The Data Exploitation Analyst II provides technical and analytical support to the OTECH Analysis Center, handling ocean navigation data acquisition, processing, and reporting for a government customer in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The role involves end‑to‑end data lifecycle activities to support mission‑critical maritime products.

Key responsibilities

• Process, analyze, and evaluate navigation, remote‑sensor, and shipboard instrumentation data from deep‑ocean systems.
• Conduct detailed analysis of side‑scan sonar, bathymetric, video, and photographic imagery.
• Reconstruct surface and sub‑surface navigation tracks and assess navigation system performance for U.S. Navy and commercial programs.
• Operate proprietary GIS‑based and navigation processing software on Windows workstations, including imaging enhancement and statistical evaluation.
• Prepare technical reports, oral briefings, and ad‑hoc documentation for customers and program reviews.

Required profile

• 2–6 years of relevant experience with an Associate degree in a scientific or mathematical field (or equivalent work experience).
• Background in marine navigation practices, data analysis, and technical writing.
• U.S. citizenship, ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance and pass a polygraph.
• Ability to meet maritime physical, dental, immunization, and safety training requirements.

Required skills

• Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Adobe Photoshop for image editing.
• GIS software (ESRI) and proprietary navigation processing tools.
• Side‑scan sonar processing software such as SonarWiz, Hypack, and WinFrog.
• Experience with Doppler sonar, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) and remotely operated vehicles (ROV) support equipment.
