Postdoctoral Associate – Meteorology Research

About the role

The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the University of Miami seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to advance research on boundary‑layer dynamics and air‑sea interactions in tropical cyclones using observational databases and high‑resolution numerical simulations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, analyze and maintain observational and high‑resolution numerical model data sets for tropical cyclone research.
• Document, assess and quantify the impact of emerging technology data sets such as drones, UAS, high‑altitude balloons and robotic ocean expendables.
• Apply AI/ML techniques to improve situational awareness, sampling strategies and operational efficiency.
• Publish findings in top‑tier peer‑reviewed journals and present results at scientific conferences.
• Participate in the annual NOAA Hurricane Field Program to collect novel observations.

Required profile

• PhD in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Computer Science, Engineering or a closely related field.
• Strong publication record and advanced programming experience.
• Experience with large observational data sets and high‑resolution numerical simulations.
• Knowledge of air‑sea interactions and boundary‑layer processes in hurricanes is preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, dynamic research team.
