Research Assistant Professor - Surgery, Surgical Oncology

About the role

The University of Miami seeks a tenure‑earning Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery, focusing on surgical oncology and pancreatic cancer. The role combines independent research, laboratory leadership, and collaborative teaching across UM schools.

Key responsibilities

• Design, conduct, and manage scientific investigations on genetic, epigenetic, and microenvironmental factors in metastatic tumors.
• Oversee daily operations of a research laboratory, including budgeting, equipment maintenance, and safety compliance.
• Lead regular lab meetings and mentor postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.
• Develop and sustain collaborations within the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and other UM departments.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data.
• Prepare and submit manuscripts, abstracts, and grant proposals.
• Present research findings at internal meetings and external conferences.
• Participate in the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Junior Development Program.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in biological or biomedical sciences or an equivalent field.
• Proven experience with scientific techniques and laboratory management.
• Track record of peer‑reviewed publications and successful grant writing.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work with diverse teams and mentor junior researchers.
• Computer literacy and familiarity with data analysis tools.
