Research Assistant – Lemaire Lab (Biology)

About the role

The Lemaire Laboratory at Saint Louis University seeks a motivated Research Assistant to support investigations into cell identity during development, with a focus on the nervous system. This position combines molecular biology techniques with animal work using marine invertebrates.

Key responsibilities

• Assist and conduct independent research projects, including experimental design and data interpretation.
• Prepare and maintain culture media, reagents, and experimental animals; perform injections and animal care.
• Execute molecular biology protocols such as cloning, RNA isolation, PCR and RT‑PCR.
• Operate scientific equipment (spectrophotometer, fraction collector, centrifuge, incubator, homogenizer, microscopes) and perform chromatography and electrophoresis.
• Maintain clean, organized lab space in compliance with health and safety standards.
• Perform clerical duties: data entry, record keeping, bibliography management, and routine correspondence.

Required profile

• Strong organizational, communication, and time‑management abilities.
• Basic laboratory experience preferred; training will be provided for specific techniques.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
