Research Assistant – Hispanic LGB Youth & Families

About the role

The University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies seeks a motivated Research Assistant to support an NIH‑funded study aimed at preventing drug use and promoting mental health among Hispanic lesbian, gay, and bisexual youth and their families in Miami‑Dade County.

Key responsibilities

• Lead recruitment and outreach through community organizations, clinics, schools, and social networks.
• Conduct eligibility screenings, obtain informed consent, and enroll participants.
• Maintain regular communication with families, send reminders, and support participant retention.
• Assist with data collection (surveys, interviews, focus groups), ensure confidentiality, and keep detailed records.
• Perform fidelity assessments and support community partnership development.
• Collaborate with the Principal Investigator, Project Director, and research staff, attending meetings and contributing to reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in public health, psychology, social work, nursing, or related field preferred; associate’s degree or relevant experience considered.
• Experience working with Hispanic LGB youth and families in Miami‑Dade is strongly preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency required.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
• Commitment to health equity, cultural humility, and community engagement.
