Research Assistant 1 – Neurological Surgery Lab

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Neurological Surgery is seeking a full‑time Research Assistant 1 to support cutting‑edge research on viral oncogenesis and novel cancer therapeutics. You will work directly with the principal investigator in a dynamic laboratory environment.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and perform minor repairs on scientific apparatus.
• Prepare and maintain cell cultures, order supplies, and manage laboratory reagents.
• Assist with animal handling, IACUC documentation, and preparation for animal surgeries.
• Collect, record, and enter experimental data; perform basic data analysis.
• Prepare correspondence, answer phones, and manage bibliographies and publication schedules.
• Maintain logs, study notebooks, and ensure compliance with university policies.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 1 year relevant laboratory experience.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Willingness to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
• Commitment to the university’s core values and collaborative work style.
