Remote Controller (NetSuite)

About the role

A private equity-backed software and services company growing through acquisition is looking for a Controller to own its accounting function remotely, working closely with the CFO. The role suits an experienced Controller who enjoys the work, or a strong Senior Accountant ready to take Controller-level ownership. It is fully remote in the United States (excluding Hawaii), about 40 hours per week, with a base salary of $120,000-$145,000 per year.

Key responsibilities

• Run the accounting function as a hands-on department of one: GL, AP/AR, invoicing, collections, payroll accounting, bookkeeping and reconciliations.
• Own the monthly and annual close, financial statements and reporting; the current monthly close runs about 5-7 business days.
• Serve as the primary in-house owner of NetSuite, handling day-to-day use, troubleshooting, configuration, reporting and workflow improvements.
• Maintain GAAP accounting, deferred revenue and prepaids across annual software subscriptions, fixed-price services with milestones and time-and-materials work.
• Coordinate external auditors and keep supporting schedules, controls and documentation clear.
• Guide outsourced implementation partners as acquired businesses move into NetSuite, managing requirements and validating results.
• Support the CFO with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning and reporting as capabilities grow.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Progressive accounting experience, typically around 5-7 years or more, with substantial personal responsibility for close and the underlying accounting work.
• Willingness to handle daily accounting personally while improving the function.
• Strong Senior Accountants who have substantially contributed to close are welcome; previous Controller title or final close sign-off is not required.

Required skills

• Hands-on NetSuite experience and the ability to own its accounting use without foundational training.
• Practical GAAP, reconciliation, deferred-revenue and Excel skills.
• Helpful: CPA/public accounting, software or services experience, ERP migration exposure, FP&A experience, and deep ASC 606 policy knowledge.
