Reliability Engineer (Spacecraft Mission Assurance)
caci · Danbury
Job description
About the role
CACI is seeking a Reliability Engineer to support its Specialty Engineering team. The role drives RAMS (reliability, availability, maintainability and safety) initiatives for spacecraft, launch vehicles and ground support systems, ensuring hardware and software meet mission assurance requirements for high-reliability, long-duration space applications. The position is full time, based in Danbury, with up to 10% local travel.
Key responsibilities
- Perform FMEA/FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD) for spacecraft subsystems to identify single points of failure and mission-critical risks.
- Develop reliability predictions and lifetime assessments for components in extreme space environments (radiation, vacuum, thermal cycling, vibration/launch loads) using MIL-HDBK-217, NPRD/EPRD or physics-of-failure models.
- Track reliability metrics such as MTBF, failure rates, redundancy margins and mission success probability across design life.
- Support design reviews (PDR, CDR, MRR) by presenting reliability analyses, risk assessments and open-item dispositions to internal and customer/program stakeholders.
- Collaborate with quality, components and parts engineering to ensure compliance with applicable standards, and assess supplier component reliability data and qualification status for flight hardware procurement.
- Contribute to lessons-learned databases and continuous improvement of reliability processes, and support electrical engineering worst-case, derating and parts stress analysis.
- Support radiation effects analysis (TID, SEE, displacement damage) in coordination with parts engineering.
Required profile
- U.S. citizen able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance; no minimum clearance required to start.
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering or a related technical field.
- 4-7 years of experience in reliability/mission assurance engineering, preferably on spacecraft, launch vehicle or satellite programs.
- Desired: Master's degree, familiarity with radiation hardness assurance (RHA) and EEE parts selection, and CRE certification or equivalent.
Required skills
- FMEA/FMECA, FTA, RBD, Weibull analysis, worst-case and derating analysis.
- Familiarity with space-industry reliability and mission assurance standards.
- Experience with reliability/statistical software such as Windchill Risk and Reliability, Minitab or MathCAD.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with experience presenting at technical design reviews.
What we offer
- Proposed pay range of $94,400 - $198,200, depending on location, contract category, experience, skills and education.
- Healthcare, wellness, financial, retirement, family support, continuing education and time-off benefits.
- A flexible time-off benefit and access to learning resources.
