Sr. Mechanical Designer

About the role

CACI is looking for an experienced mechanical designer/drafter to join an integrated product team in Danbury. The role applies existing skills to medium-to-difficult complexity interdisciplinary tasks, producing tooling and related flight hardware. The designer works autonomously with limited oversight and is accountable for space-flight and non-space-flight program milestone deliverables.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design on multiple projects through all phases of the product lifecycle, taking direction from lead project mechanical engineers.
• Create part models, assembly layouts, detailed drawings and bills of materials using PTC Creo and PDMlink.
• Implement requirements and minimize costs, working with manufacturing personnel on design for manufacturability (DFM).
• Produce and run status reports, meetings and peer reviews, and execute engineering design changes to part and assembly drawings.
• Take part in project scheduling and budgeting, validate concepts through engineering models and prototypes, and coordinate with all engineering disciplines.

Required profile

• Ability to drive projects from initial concept through completion with minimal oversight.
• Adaptable to changing assignments as the design team and client base grow.
• Good verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
• Willingness to work overtime when needed to meet customer milestones.

Required skills

• PTC Creo for solid modeling and simulation (FEA), with a commitment to best modeling practices.
• Understanding of GD&T and of manufacturing and prototyping across engineering materials.
• Experience with CAD software (PTC Creo preferred); cost estimating is a plus.
