Registered Respiratory Therapist – Per Diem

About the role

The Registered Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory therapy procedures to assess, diagnose, and treat patients with respiratory and pulmonary disorders in a fast‑paced hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Administer physician‑prescribed respiratory therapy, including oxygen, medications, pulmonary function tests (PFTs), arterial blood gases (ABGs), and mechanical ventilation.
• Perform invasive and non‑invasive evaluation procedures, recommend care plans, and monitor patients on mechanical ventilation, including weaning and airway care.
• Collect and analyze sputum, blood, and breath specimens; measure lung capacity and provide diagnostic results and treatment suggestions.
• Document patient care activities and ensure compliance with quality standards and departmental regulations.

Required profile

• Graduate of an AMA‑approved School of Respiratory Care.
• Less than 1 year of related experience (preferred 1 year).
• RRT certification (National Board for Respiratory Care) within 1 year of hire.
• ACLS certification within 60 days of hire; PALS and/or NRP as required by unit.

Required skills

• Respiratory therapy procedures (oxygen, medication delivery, PFTs, ABGs).
• Operation and troubleshooting of mechanical ventilation equipment.
• Specimen collection and analysis for respiratory diagnostics.
• Patient monitoring and clinical assessment during ventilation.
