Registered Nurse (VA Health Professional Trainee)

About the role
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking Registered Nurses for an open continuous announcement. Positions are temporary and may be filled on an as‑needed basis across VHA medical facilities nationwide. Candidates may be appointed as Health Professional Trainees (HPT) and will be referred for employment once all licensing and education requirements are satisfied.
Key responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in accordance with VA standards and protocols.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive health services.
- Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately.
- Participate in clinical training experiences and research activities as required.
Required profile
- Graduate of an ACEN‑ or CCNE‑accredited nursing program.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English as mandated by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).
- Eligibility for VA Health Professional Trainee status, with the ability to obtain a state license if not already held.
Required skills
- English language proficiency (basic written and spoken).
