Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)

About the role

AdventHealth in Daytona Beach, Florida is hiring a full-time day-shift Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA). The RNFA performs specialized nursing care in the peri-operative role, supports the operating room and works closely with surgeons. Eligible clinicians can earn salary increases of up to 20% through a voluntary Clinical Ladder Program.

Key responsibilities

• Perform specialized nursing care in all phases of the peri-operative role, including pre- and postoperative patient assessment and updating preference cards.
• Prepare surgical suites with instruments, resources and supplies according to surgeon preference cards, and perform surgical counts per policy.
• Ensure appropriate traffic control in the operating room and initiate incident reporting when indicated.
• Recognize abnormal laboratory, blood gas and radiologic data and react efficiently to emergencies.
• Protect patient privacy, safety and confidentiality, and promote positive intra- and interdepartmental relations.
• Assist with orientation of new employees and take on unit responsibility when delegated.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (RN) license and Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification; CNOR and CRNFA preferred.
• Associate's degree in nursing required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 2+ years of circulating and/or scrub experience in a multi-specialty setting preferred.
• Ability to stand for long periods, lift and move equipment and patients, and fluent English.
• Additional licensure or certification may apply depending on unit or state.

Required skills

• Perioperative nursing, acute care nursing and basic RN skills.
• Circulating and scrub skills, and knowledge of surgical instruments and equipment.
• Computer proficiency and Microsoft Office.
• Clear communication with patients, families, staff, nurses and physicians.
