Registered Nurse – Adult Orthopedic Stepdown (Per Diem)

About the role

The University of Miami seeks a Per Diem Registered Nurse to provide skilled care on the Adult Joint and Reconstruction Orthopedics Stepdown unit. This position supports patients recovering from orthopedic procedures, ensuring safe transitions and high‑quality clinical outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Complete patient assessments, document interactions, and consider age and cultural factors.
• Administer medications and treatments while maintaining accurate regulatory records.
• Reassess interventions, evaluate diagnoses, and adjust care plans as needed.
• Communicate care plans clearly to patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Participate in policy development, committee work, and unit‑level quality improvement projects.
• Initiate discharge planning at admission and involve the patient’s support network.
• Serve as preceptor, charge nurse, or resource nurse when required.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
• Active Registered Nurse license and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum of 4 years nursing experience, preferably in orthopedic or stepdown settings.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, nursing care methods, and health‑safety guidelines.
