Regional Emergency Coordinator – Region 1 (SC)

About the role

The Division’s Regional Emergency Coordinator for Region 1 will support local emergency managers and first‑responders across eight South Carolina counties. Working closely with the Regional Emergency Manager, you will help develop, maintain, and evaluate emergency management programs that align with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS).

Key responsibilities

• Assist counties in creating and updating emergency plans, training, exercises, and after‑action reviews.
• Conduct capability assessments, identify gaps, and recommend improvements.
• Provide technical assistance on the Palmetto emergency management software and local damage‑assessment processes.
• Serve as a liaison between county officials and the State Emergency Operations Center during incidents.
• Participate in state‑wide training, conferences, and, when required, extended deployments to Joint Field Offices or disaster‑impacted areas.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least two years of emergency management experience at the local, state, or federal level.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Residency in one of the eight Region 1 counties; relocation outside the region may lead to termination.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
• Familiarity with the Incident Command System (ICS).
• Experience using Palmetto emergency management software.
