Real Estate Accountant – Full‑Cycle Accounting Contractor

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented accountant with real‑estate experience to join Howard Financial’s back‑office team. Working as an independent contractor, you will support multiple clients by delivering accurate month‑end close, reconciliations and financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Manage full‑cycle accounting for several clients, including AP/AR, bank and credit‑card reconciliations, and month‑end close.
• Prepare, review and analyse monthly financial statements, management reports, budgets and cash‑flow forecasts.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and relevant regulations, addressing discrepancies proactively.
• Perform job costing, project accounting and budget‑to‑actual analysis as required.
• Support tax compliance by preparing documentation, liaising with external tax advisors and assisting with audit requests.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with client stakeholders and internal teams, providing insights to improve financial operations.
• Identify and implement process improvements and internal controls to enhance accuracy, efficiency and scalability.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of accounting experience, specifically in the real‑estate sector.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and U.S. GAAP.
• Fluent English (B2+) and comfortable communicating with high‑profile clients.
• Ability to work independently as a contractor, available 9 AM–5 PM EST, Monday‑Friday.
• Adaptable, detail‑oriented and able to thrive in a fast‑paced, growth‑focused environment.
