R&D Engineering Technician Manager

About the role

As the Manager of the R&D Engineering Technician team at Charge Robotics, you will lead a group of about eight technicians in building, testing, and deploying next‑generation solar installation robots. You act as the bridge between engineering and the shop floor, owning build execution while developing the people who make it happen.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and people‑manage a team of ~8 technicians, including approving hours/PTO, assigning work across projects, and conducting regular 1:1s and performance feedback.
• Own build execution to ensure builds are complete, on schedule, meet quality standards, and receive final inspection sign‑off.
• Upskill the team through hands‑on coaching, onboarding new technicians, and expanding technical and process capabilities.
• Support mechanical and software engineering teams in assembly, testing, and deployment of robotic systems, translating engineering intent into clear build instructions.
• Develop and maintain engineering documentation such as assembly instructions and SOPs.
• Maintain and organize the workshop, driving continuous‑improvement initiatives like 5S, tooling/fixture planning, and build‑process efficiency.
• Enforce a strong safety culture by following and reinforcing safety procedures.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of mechanical and/or electrical assembly experience, with prior leadership or mentoring of technicians.
• Strong mechanical, electrical, equipment, and safety intuition gained through personal or professional projects.
• Comfortable interpreting schematics and CAD drawings and assembling complex electromechanical systems independently.
• Positive attitude, enjoys in‑person work, and is motivated to manage and inspire a small team.
• Committed to following and reinforcing safety procedures.
