Quantum Technician Training Program – Maryland Quantum NEXUS

About the role

The Maryland Quantum NEXUS program, hosted by the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence & Security at the University of Maryland, offers a hands‑on apprenticeship to train the next generation of quantum technicians. Participants will work onsite in state‑of‑the‑art quantum labs, gaining practical experience with a variety of qubit platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Rotate through multiple quantum hardware labs (neutral‑atom, superconducting, semiconducting, topological).
• Set up, reconfigure, and tear down experimental apparatus for quantum experiments.
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments and evaluate measurement results.
• Document procedures, troubleshoot hardware issues, and support day‑to‑day operation of quantum systems.
• Collaborate with mentors and senior engineers to develop applied quantum‑technology skills.

Required profile

• Early‑career candidate (undergraduate or recent graduate) with a strong interest in quantum technology.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a government security clearance.
• Willingness to work onsite in a laboratory environment.
• Basic understanding of electronics, optics, or related experimental science.
