Quality Specialist

About the role

Saputo, a top 10 global dairy processor, is hiring a Quality Specialist in Las Cruces. The role reviews and maintains quality programs for finished product compliance, keeps QC test results accurate, supports compliance audits and helps manage customer complaints and returns.

Key responsibilities

• Review, monitor and maintain quality programs (HAACP, allergens, GMP, pest control, sanitation, sampling, environmental swabs, positive release, quality specs, master sanitation, weight control, metal detectors, microbiological and analytical information) and conduct SQF-required audits and inspections.
• Review and maintain QC test results so customer specifications are met, and prepare or update weekly QA reports.
• Assist management with regulatory, customer and internal compliance audits, and join the PSIR team to follow up on customer complaints and returns.
• Identify and fix QA documentation errors or potential food safety hazards, and maintain a historical record database with reports and graphs.
• Generate customer Certificates of Analysis (COAs), process and arrange external lab samples, and monitor the pest control program.
• Organize daily taste tests, inspect raw materials and packaging supplies, and monitor the Hold and Positive Release programs and inventory.

Required profile

• B.S. degree preferred in Dairy or Food Science, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a food or dairy manufacturing facility; microbial lab experience preferred.
• Experience with the SQF quality system and HAACP certification or training preferred.
• Bi-lingual Spanish is a plus.

Required skills

• Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel and Word, including preparing graphs in Excel.
• Knowledge of the Maestro and AS400 systems.
• Strong math and analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to read technical material.
