Quality Engineer

About the role

The Quality Engineer leads and executes quality assurance across product, process and manufacturing operations at ABB's NEMA Motors Division, which manufactures electric motors. The role reports to the Quality Manager and works onsite. It covers winding, assembly and machining operations and partners with Manufacturing, Engineering and Supply Chain to reduce variation and improve product quality and reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead quality strategy and continuous improvement, driving defect prevention and improving FPY, DPPM, scrap, rework and warranty metrics through Lean Six Sigma.
• Own the Quality Management System: ensure ISO compliance, support audits, manage APQP/PPAP, lead root cause and corrective action, and set up quality controls and documentation.
• Provide technical quality leadership through data analysis, supplier quality management and workforce training.
• Improve quality in winding, assembly, machining and finishing by enhancing defect detection and test reliability, reducing variation and standardizing work methods.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 2+ years of experience in quality, manufacturing or operational excellence in a manufacturing environment.
• Work authorization to work for ABB in the US.
• Preferred: ASQ CQE or Six Sigma certification, experience with winding, assembly and machining, ISO auditor experience or QMS ownership, project management experience or PMP certification.

Required skills

• Core quality tools: 8D, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, SPC.
• Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma.
• Statistical analysis and data trending (e.g. Minitab).
• Ability to read engineering drawings, specifications and test procedures.
• Preferred: ISO 9001 knowledge.
