Quality Engineer I

About the role

Mortenson is looking for a Quality Engineer I to support quality control on construction projects. The role involves managing quality performance, reporting results and driving corrective and preventive actions while collaborating with senior quality managers and project teams.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the Quality Management Plan for assigned scopes from notice to proceed through final acceptance.
• Conduct inspections of materials and work, identify non‑conformances and manage Non‑Conformance Notices (NCN) and Request for Information (RFI) processes.
• Lead corrective actions, track progress and report quality performance metrics.
• Serve as a technical resource for project staff, providing guidance on constructability, design reviews, shop drawing and submittal reviews.
• Coordinate with customers, architects, engineers and subcontractors to resolve technical issues and ensure design documents meet requirements.
• Capture best practices, suggest improvements to margin or risk through means‑and‑methods or material selection.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil or Architectural Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Minimum one year of experience in design, engineering or construction.
• Current driver’s license and ability to conduct constructability and quality reviews.
• Strong teamwork orientation, active listening and ability to work with diverse backgrounds.

Required skills

• Knowledge of the design‑bid‑build process.
• Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with large cranes and mechanical systems.
• Understanding of medium and high voltage utility electrical systems.
• Computer literacy for quality management tools.
