Purchasing Buyer (Technician II)

About the role

The Purchasing Buyer (Technician II) is responsible for acquiring construction materials, equipment, and replacement parts needed for company operations and turnaround projects. The role ensures that all purchases meet specifications, are cost‑effective, and arrive on schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare written inquiries and obtain verbal or written quotes for vendor‑supplied items in compliance with requisitions and specifications.
• Receive, evaluate and select vendor bids based on price, delivery date, past performance and other criteria.
• Negotiate terms and conditions, place purchase orders and issue purchase change orders.
• Prepare and maintain all required documentation for each purchase order and expedite deliveries when necessary.
• Manage third‑party rental contracts, renewals and terminations, and keep accurate rental order files.
• Coordinate invoice issues with vendors and accounting, and resolve delivery requirements with vendors and supervisors.
• Maintain ongoing relationships with vendors and liaise with sales representatives as required.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED; additional specialized training or college coursework preferred.
• At least six years of experience in procurement, purchasing or related fields.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Physical ability to perform sedentary work with occasional lifting up to 10 lb.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of procurement techniques, procedures and policies.
• Understanding of accounting principles and business contract law.
