Transportation Engineer – Traffic Operations (Level II‑IV)

About the role

The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Engineer to join its Traffic Operations team in the Dallas District. The role involves planning, designing, and implementing traffic engineering solutions to improve safety and mobility across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and perform traffic engineering studies to recommend solutions for high‑accident locations, warrant traffic signals and speed zones, and determine highway capacity and channelization.
• Develop complex engineering designs, layouts, specifications, cost estimates, and contracts.
• Coordinate traffic engineering studies, traffic counts, and develop traffic management policies, procedures, and standards.
• Assist project managers with schedule baselines for highly complex projects, make presentations, and represent TxDOT in stakeholder meetings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related science accepted by TX PELS.
• 5‑7 years of engineering/transportation engineering experience (or equivalent graduate education) depending on the level.
• Valid driver’s license; professional engineering license (or ability to obtain Texas PE within six months of hire).

Required skills

• Traffic engineering study and analysis.
