Public Information Officer (Communications)

About the role

The Louisiana Department of Education is seeking a Public Information Officer 2 to join its Division of Communications. This position will serve as a Communications Specialist, creating clear, accessible content for families, educators, and the public across multiple channels.

Key responsibilities

• Produce public‑facing materials such as newsletters, press releases, talking points, memos, and FAQs.
• Manage and update content on the LDOE website, ensuring compliance with WCAG accessibility standards.
• Oversee social media accounts and create platform‑appropriate posts.
• Develop basic graphics, photos, and short video clips for digital outreach.
• Support public‑engagement tools, including the LDOE call center and the Ask LDOE Zendesk portal.
• Collaborate closely with the Office of Early Childhood to keep program information current.

Required profile

• Strong plain‑language writing and editing abilities.
• Experience translating technical or policy content for public audiences.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a government or public‑sector environment.
