Psychiatrist – State of Georgia Department of Behavioral Health

About the role

The State of Georgia, through its Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, is seeking a board‑eligible or board‑certified Psychiatrist to join the West Central Georgia Regional Hospital in Columbus. This position offers the chance to work in a supportive, collaborative environment serving adult civil and forensic patients.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and diagnose adult patients with serious mental illness.
• Develop comprehensive treatment plans that include behavioral support and psychopharmacology.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of medical providers, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and other specialists.
• Provide clinical leadership and contribute to interdisciplinary case discussions.

Required profile

• Graduation from an accredited medical school recognized by the state board of medical examiners.
• Licensure or eligibility to practice medicine in Georgia.
• Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency program and board eligibility in psychiatry.
• Preference for American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology certification and experience in public‑hospital psychiatry.
