Psychiatrist - Per Diem

About the role

Petaluma Health Center provides high-quality health care in Southern Sonoma County and West Marin, and is hiring a psychiatrist on a per diem basis. The psychiatrist delivers psychiatric services in a compassionate, consultation-based model with primary care, acting as liaison with the county mental health system and working as part of the medical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose and treat psychiatric disorders, prescribe treatment in line with the DSM and the American Board of Psychiatry, and work within a consultation model with primary care providers
• Provide on-call brief assessments and triage of urgent mental health complaints, including psychosis, acute mood symptoms, trauma, suicide risk, violence, domestic violence, child and elder abuse reporting and crisis intervention
• Collaborate with case managers, nurses, therapists and primary care providers, and advocate for the patient
• Participate in peer review, quality improvement and continuing medical education, and help cover evenings, weekends and after-hours
• Supervise PAs and NPs within their scope of practice and keep all licenses, DEA, CME and CPR certifications current

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited medical school; board-certified MD/DO with a current California license and DEA
• Three or more years of psychiatric care experience in a clinic setting preferred
• Bilingual in Spanish required
• Able to meet credentialing and privileging requirements
