Psychiatrist (Hourly Paid)

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking a board‑certified psychiatrist to provide direct psychiatric services on an hourly basis. You will work with individuals receiving care through the department, delivering assessments, treatment planning, and medication management.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including diagnostic assessments, mental status examinations, and psychosocial histories.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.
• Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, monitoring efficacy and side effects.
• Provide crisis intervention and psychiatric stabilization services as needed.
• Participate in treatment team meetings and case conferences, offering expert psychiatric consultation.
• Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with departmental policies and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Medical Doctor (MD or DO) degree from an accredited institution and completion of an accredited psychiatric residency.
• Board Certification in Psychiatry (or board‑eligible with intent to achieve certification).
• Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in Georgia and a valid DEA registration.
• Experience with severe and persistent mental illness and/or developmental disabilities is preferred.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills.
