Project Manager – Heavy Highway Construction

About the role

Our client, a leading heavy civil contractor, is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead major highway and infrastructure projects across Kentucky and the Southeast. The role oversees all phases from pre‑construction planning to final close‑out, ensuring safety, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Direct all phases of heavy highway construction projects from pre‑construction through final close‑out.
• Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and cost controls.
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating field operations, subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants.
• Build and maintain relationships with DOT representatives, owners, engineering firms, and other stakeholders.
• Monitor financial performance and implement strategies to maximize profitability.
• Oversee contract administration, change‑order management, and project documentation.
• Identify risks and develop practical solutions to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
• Provide regular project updates and financial reporting to executive leadership.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (preferred).
• Minimum seven years of project management experience in heavy highway or heavy civil construction.
• Proven success managing DOT‑funded highway and transportation infrastructure projects valued between $20 million and $100 million.

Required skills

• Self‑performed excavation, embankment, grading, drainage systems, underground utilities, crushed stone placement, and blasting operations.
• Project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control.
