Project Engineer - Medical Devices

About the role

Helbling Technik is looking for a Project Engineer to join its R&D team in Cambridge, MA, working on the complete development cycle of new medical devices and systems, from specification and concept through to transfer to manufacturing. The engineer develops solutions to challenging mechanical problems, builds and tests prototypes, and communicates technical updates clearly to clients in the US and Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in interdisciplinary engineering projects at every stage of product development
• Conceive and design new medical devices, lab systems and automation solutions, such as drug delivery devices, robotic and laparoscopic surgical instruments, patient care systems, diagnostics instruments, laboratory systems, wearable diagnostics and manufacturing machinery
• Generate concepts of product modules and systems in CAD, design plastics and metal components, perform DFMEA, tolerance analysis, fundamental calculations and finite element analysis
• Prepare and present technical reports
• Design, source and test prototypes, including test fixtures, test protocols and reports
• Contact and evaluate vendors and contractors, and collaborate with customers in the US and Europe
• Run workshops, communicate design ideas across disciplines and drive key product development decisions

Required profile

• Thesis-based Master's degree in mechanical, electromechanical, robotics or biomechanical engineering (strongly preferred)
• 2+ years of experience designing and developing medical devices (a strong plus)
• Hands-on experience creating and testing prototype devices (a plus)
• Knowledge of product development processes and methods
• Eligible to work in the US without sponsorship

Required skills

• SolidWorks or Creo (required)
• Matlab, FEA and LabVIEW programming (strong plus)
