Project Engineer (Civil Engineer V)

About the role

The Project Engineer (Civil Engineer V) is responsible for supervising staff who prepare contract plans and specifications for transportation infrastructure improvements and ensuring the quality of those documents. This position supports the district’s annual program and works within the Office of Highways and Intermodal Project Implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop schedules, set priorities, and ensure completion of projects within the Studies and Plans Section.
• Review and verify the completeness, policy conformance, and design quality of infrastructure improvement plans prepared by staff and consultants.
• Coordinate activities with other district program development sections and bureaus to meet project timelines.
• Negotiate agreements with consultants, monitor progress, and ensure quality of work.
• Supervise, train, and motivate staff, and provide public presentations and meeting support.

Required profile

• Experience supervising engineering staff and managing transportation infrastructure design projects.
• Ability to develop project schedules, set priorities, and ensure compliance with annual and multi‑year programs.
• Strong communication skills for public presentations and inter‑departmental coordination.

Required skills

• Knowledge of contract plan and specification preparation for transportation projects.
• Understanding of design engineering principles for highways and intermodal infrastructure.
• Familiarity with quality assurance processes for engineering documents.
