Project Development Engineer / Project Developer

About the role

Johnson Controls Federal Systems is looking for a Project Development Engineer / Project Developer to lead design, scope definition and cost development for mechanical and low‑voltage building automation projects at U.S. military and other federal facilities in the Mid‑Atlantic region. The position is remote‑first with occasional travel to sites in the Washington, D.C. metro area.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct site visits, develop Statements of Work and prepare technical proposals for projects ranging from $100k to $2M.
• Lead multi‑disciplinary teams to create cost estimates, scopes, schedules and risk‑management plans.
• Collaborate with Sales Account Executives to identify technical opportunities and produce concept presentations.
• Review RFPs, PWSs and design documents, generate RFIs and value‑engineering concepts.

Required profile

• Experience in project development for HVAC mechanical, HVAC controls, MEP and low‑voltage building automation.
• Strong estimating skills, preferably with RS Means or similar tools.
• Ability to lead site surveys independently and assess design risk.
• U.S. citizenship with eligibility for required government security clearances.

What we offer

• Base salary $120,000‑$150,000 USD per year, bonus eligible.
