Project Architect - Cultural Architecture & Historic Preservation

About the role

A highly regarded boutique architecture practice in Washington, DC is seeking a Project Architect to join its collaborative studio. This is an on-site role for an architect who enjoys working at the intersection of design, technical rigor and historic preservation. Projects range from new buildings to redesigns and preservation work on significant historic structures and urban sites, some of which are national or international and may require travel.

Key responsibilities

• Lead architectural documentation from concept through construction, producing and reviewing drawings, specifications and project documentation
• Coordinate consultants, technical details and interdisciplinary workflows
• Manage submittals, RFIs and construction administration, including site visits
• Support project managers with scheduling, coordination and project tracking
• Use Revit and BIM tools for documentation and coordination
• Integrate sustainable and resilient design principles and contribute to internal quality control
• Communicate with clients and consultants and mentor junior staff

Required profile

• 5-10 years of professional architecture experience
• Professional degree in Architecture; licensure or active pursuit preferred
• Experience across design development, construction documents and construction administration
• Strong experience with traditional design, rigorous detailing and renovation/adaptive reuse of historic structures
• Experience with institutional, civic or complex urban projects preferred
• Experience with federal clients such as GSA, USACE, AOC or NPS is highly valued

Required skills

• Revit and AutoCAD, with strong experience integrating both workflows
• Consultant coordination, scheduling and project management; Microsoft Project is a plus
• Familiarity with LEED principles and sustainable/resilient design
• Knowledge of DC Building, Energy and Green Codes and FAR regulations
