Programme Officer – Mental Health & Psychosocial Support

About the role
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Programme Officer to lead Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities within its Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) portfolio. The role supports migrants with irregular status in the United States and third‑country contexts, ensuring safe, dignified return and reintegration.
Key responsibilities
- Design, implement and monitor MHPSS interventions for voluntary returnees.
- Coordinate counselling services, medical escorts, and acquisition of travel documents.
- Collaborate with the U.S. Department of State and other governmental and non‑governmental partners.
- Provide technical guidance on mental health best practices in migration contexts.
- Prepare reports, case studies and contribute to program evaluations.
Required profile
- Relevant university degree in public health, psychology, social work or a related field.
- Experience working in humanitarian or migration settings, preferably with MHPSS components.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholders and multicultural teams.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills.
Required skills
- Knowledge of mental health and psychosocial support standards and guidelines.
- Familiarity with assisted voluntary return processes.
- Proficiency in English (additional UN languages a plus).
