Program Manager, Biocontainment Building Automation Systems (BAS)

About the role

The Program Manager, Biocontainment Building Automation Systems (BAS) leads facilities staff at Cleveland Clinic Florida Research and Innovation Center, overseeing installation, maintenance, and compliance of high‑containment laboratory systems (BSL‑2 and BSL‑3). The role works standard days (8:00 am‑5:00 pm) and provides 24/7 on‑call support for critical facility operations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of facilities employees, handling staffing, training, performance feedback and capacity planning.
• Oversee installation, inspection, repair, troubleshooting and daily maintenance of building automation, HVAC, HEPA filtration and other critical lab systems.
• Develop and manage preventive‑maintenance programs, control graphics reviews, fault‑detection, and annual shutdown activities for high‑containment labs.
• Maintain compliance with statutory, regulatory and internal policies; certify repairs and changes to BSL‑3 laboratory designs.
• Coordinate work through the CMMS, interact with contractors, and support system‑wide initiatives.
• Manage departmental budget, monitor expenses, inventory, and purchase requisitions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field OR four years of supervisory/managerial experience.
• Four years of experience as a fully qualified HVAC tradesperson or technician, with appropriate licenses and apprenticeship or vocational training.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Biological Select Agent and Toxin clearance and medical clearance for BSL‑3 work.
• Experience providing 24/7 on‑call facility support and working in a research environment.

Required skills

• Building Automation Systems (BAS) expertise, preferably Siemens, Trane, and Phoenix controls.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems, HEPA‑filtered exhaust and supply, plumbing vent filters, and related biocontainment equipment.
• Ability to read electrical schematic diagrams.
• Proficiency with CMMS tools and fault‑detection software.
