Produce Clerk - Production

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Produce Clerk for its produce department in Papillion. The role keeps the department stocked, fresh and inviting while providing friendly service to customers. It is an hourly position open to people aged 18 and older, with no extensive experience required.

Key responsibilities

• Greet every customer with a smile, assist them with their needs and go the extra mile
• Check the status and appearance of merchandise for freshness and rotate product to maintain quality standards
• Develop or follow a production list and anticipate daily product needs
• Receive product, put it away and review invoices as needed
• Prepare, finish and replenish product
• Follow sanitation procedures, keep the work area clean and remove trash
• Order product and supplies and price products for customers as needed
• Answer the phone promptly and provide friendly service to callers
• Pitch in with other tasks and special projects

Required profile

• Aged 18 or older
• Less than a high school diploma or equivalent experience accepted
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience; training is provided
• Ability to safely use sharp knives and blades, handle heat and burn hazards, and operate a delivery vehicle according to DOT standards
• Willingness to stand and walk frequently, and to work in temperature extremes, dampness and around cleaning chemicals

Required skills

• Basic math: simple addition, subtraction, counting and recording
• Clear communication with customers and co-workers
• Attention to detail following written and verbal instructions
• Learning and applying proper sanitation, food safety and department procedures
