Produce Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Produce Clerk in its produce department in Brookings. The role keeps the department stocked, fresh and inviting while delivering friendly service to customers. It is an hourly position open to people aged 18 and older, with no extensive experience required.

Key responsibilities

• Greet every customer with a smile, assist them with their needs and go the extra mile
• Check the freshness of merchandise, replenish and rotate product to maintain quality standards
• Develop or follow a production list and anticipate daily product needs
• Receive product, put it away, review invoices and price products as needed
• Keep the work area clean, sanitize properly and remove trash in a timely way
• Order product and supplies, answer the phone promptly and follow the dress code and hygiene standards
• Pitch in with other tasks and special projects

Required profile

• Aged 18 or older
• Less than a high school diploma or equivalent experience accepted
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience; training is provided
• Ability to stand and walk frequently, use sharp knives safely, and handle heat and burn hazards
• Ability to operate a delivery vehicle according to DOT standards, where applicable

Required skills

• Basic math: simple addition, subtraction, counting and recording
• Clear communication with customers and co-workers
• Attention to detail following written and verbal instructions
• Knowledge of sanitation, food safety and department procedures
