PRN Registered Nurse – Oncology Clinic (Birmingham)

About the role

This PRN Registered Nurse position supports patients at the St. Vincent's Oncology Clinic in Birmingham. The role provides professional nursing care in an ambulatory oncology setting, serving a diverse age range from late adolescence to elderly patients.

Key responsibilities

• Administer chemotherapy, hydration, and other medications under physician supervision.
• Assist physicians with examinations and procedures while maintaining efficient patient flow.
• Record vital signs, allergies, medication changes, and other patient data accurately.
• Monitor patient conditions, assess lab results and imaging, and initiate appropriate interventions.
• Facilitate dose modifications by reviewing protocols, calculating doses, and consulting physicians.
• Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and manage central line catheters.
• Program and maintain ambulatory infusion pumps, providing patient and caregiver education.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
• Minimum of one year nursing experience, preferably in oncology.
• Current RN license and registration with the State Board of Nursing.
• Experience with chemotherapy administration is highly preferred.
