Phlebotomist / Lab Technician at St. Vincent's Birmingham Clinic

About the role

This full‑time position supports patient care at St. Vincent's Birmingham/Bruno Cancer Center by collecting and processing laboratory specimens under direct supervision. The role also assists with specimen analysis, equipment maintenance, and quality‑control activities.

Key responsibilities

• Collect appropriate patient specimens and document results according to quality‑assurance procedures.
• Perform specimen analysis for chemistry, hematology, and immunology tests as directed.
• Maintain inventory of supplies, ensure viability, and manage equipment logs and maintenance records.
• Process lab orders, chart results promptly, and send specimens to reference laboratories when needed.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, perform routine instrument maintenance, and record lot numbers for controls and reagents.
• Follow CLIA, OSHA, and universal precaution standards, including safe disposal of hazardous materials.
• Assist with patient flow, transfusion arrangements, and uphold patient confidentiality.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of experience in laboratory testing or phlebotomy.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy and sample collection techniques.
• Specimen analysis for chemistry, hematology, and immunology.
• Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment under CLIA guidelines.
• Inventory management and documentation of quality‑control logs.
