Principal, Tech Innovation Practice (Technical Due Diligence & CIO Strategy)

About the role

Oliver Wyman's Tech Innovation practice advises CIOs and technology leaders on IT strategy, growth, operations and risk. As a Principal focused on technical due diligence and CIO strategy, you will advise senior leaders on technology decisions affecting business direction, efficiency and risk, lead technical due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, assess IT operating models and recommend on outsourcing, IT cost management, cybersecurity, compliance and customer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical due diligence for acquisitions and investments, evaluating technology, development, security and risks.
• Advise CIOs on outsourcing levels and vendor management, the financial impact of IT investments, and how to improve customer experience and operations.
• Recommend IT operating models that balance agility, risk, cost and business needs, and explain how they affect team structure and collaboration.
• Advise on innovation and modernization, including AI and cloud adoption, and support team training and upskilling.
• Communicate technical findings clearly to business leaders, build client relationships and mentor junior team members.

Required profile

• 10+ years in consulting, technology strategy, IT advisory or related roles focused on technical due diligence and CIO support.
• Experience advising on innovation, emerging tech and cloud adoption trade-offs, and designing team training programs.
• Experience across multiple industries and proven ability to deliver practical client solutions.
• Preferred: familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), experience in financial services, healthcare or technology, and an advanced degree.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of IT operating models, vendor management, cybersecurity and compliance.
• Ability to lead technical assessments and explain results to business leaders.
• Excellent communication for both technical and business audiences.
