Principal Fatigue & Damage Tolerance Engineer

About the role

Airbus Commercial Aircraft seeks a senior engineer to lead fatigue and damage tolerance analysis for aircraft structures. The role involves complex analysis of metallic parts, collaborating with design and stress teams, and applying both hand calculations and advanced computer methods.

Key responsibilities

• Perform complex fatigue and damage tolerance analyses for airframe structures using classical and finite‑element methods.
• Document analyses for trade studies, detail drawing sign‑offs, and support technical sign‑off processes.
• Collaborate with internal and external technical departments to solve advanced engineering problems.
• Mentor less‑experienced analysts and provide technical leadership on major projects.
• Represent engineering in presentations and act as technical advisor to management and customers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil or related engineering.
• Minimum 13 years of experience in airframe structural analysis, including fatigue and damage tolerance.
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic, fast‑paced team.
• Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

Required skills

• Classical hand calculations and numerical (Finite Element) stress analysis.
• Experience with fatigue and damage tolerance methodologies.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail).
• Knowledge of airframe design tools such as CATIA, NASTRAN, and PATRAN.
• Familiarity with SRM, MRB, FAR/JAR/CS/Part21 certification processes.
